U.S. SPEEDWAY MOTORCYCLE CHAMPIONSHIP : Three Former Champions Highlight Field
The 16-rider field has been finalized for the U.S. speedway motorcycle championship, Oct. 3 at the Orange County Fairgrounds.
The field includes three former champions--Brad Oxley of San Juan Capistrano, Steve Lucero of Riverside and Bobby Schwartz of Costa Mesa--and current two-time national champion Mike Faria of Downey.
Chris Manchester, 20, from Hesperia, is the top qualifier with 102 points in six rounds of racing. Manchester is followed by Schwartz (97), Faria (88), Scott Brant (76), Rob Pfetzing (71), Gary Hicks (67) and Lucero (64).
Others who qualified include Bart Bast (62), Charlie Venegas (49), Brent Werner (46), Andy Northrup (45), Oxley (44), Louis Kossuth (43) and Jessie Ochoa (42). Completing the field will be British Speedway League riders Billy Hamill and Ronnie Correy. John Aden and Bobby Hedden are the reserves.
