LANCASTER : City May Revise Sex-Business Law

Share

The Lancaster City Council has directed its attorney to revise its new sex-business ordinance that went into effect last week, dropping a ban on sales of sexual aids.

The council’s action defused a plan by the owner of a sexually oriented business to put a referendum on a city ballot to repeal the entire ordinance.

Greg Poulin, owner of Fun Zone Gifts, which sells the sexual devices, said he had gathered 7,000 signatures to force an election.

Poulin said Wednesday that he will halt the petition drive because he trusts that the council will remove the sales ban from the ordinance.

The council requested the changes by a 4-0 vote Tuesday night.

Councilman Arnie Rodio was absent.

The law’s main provisions restricting future sex-oriented businesses to two small industrial areas were left intact.

The revised section of the ordinance is expected to be brought before the council on Oct. 5, a city spokeswoman said Wednesday.
