Judge Quits Cigarette Liability Case : U.S. District Judge H. Lee Sarokin voluntarily removed himself from hearing the retrial of a major cigarette liability case after an appeals court removed him from a similar case. The decision by the Newark, N.J.-based jurist ends his involvement in a case that began in 1983, when Rose Cipollone of Little Ferry, N.J., sued the cigarette companies that made the brands she smoked for 42 years.
