Hubert Ends Drought With Main-Event Win

Gary Hubert of Camarillo returned to the winner’s circle with a victory in the Mini Stock 20-lap oval main event at Ventura Raceway on Friday.

Over-aggressiveness by Chris Raschke of Ventura on Lap 5 paved the way to victory for Hubert, who had not earned a trip down victory lane since taking back-to-back main events in July.

Gary Swenson of Ventura was second and current points leader Marty Desbrow of Ventura was third.

Joe Silva of Port Hueneme won the 10-lap Mini Stock figure-eight main event to remain in the hunt for his second consecutive title. Silva trails points leader Kevin Parker of Ventura by 50 points. Parker was second on Friday.

Jim Firsich of Port Hueneme won the Street Stock 10-lap figure-eight main event.

Zeke DeRose also recorded a Street Stock 10-lap heat-race victory. Ron Bartels of Hawthorne and Scott Niven of Agoura Hills also recorded heat-race victories.

Mini Stock 10-lap heat-race winners were Silva, Chris Raschke and Marty Desbrow.
