NRA’s New Ad Campaign

Share

Even though I am not a card-carrying member of the NRA, I must take exception to your two editorials (one appeared on the opinion page, the other in the Metro section on Sept. 4) regarding the NRA’s recent advertisement.

Contrary to what you would like people to believe, the ad does not maintain that everyone should go out and buy a gun. It merely illustrates that during the Los Angeles disturbances California’s gun control laws prevented the average citizen from expeditiously purchasing a firearm while the criminal element was undeterred by the constraint of law. The point of the ad, to those not blinded by emotion or unbridled bias, is that responsible gun owners should work to defeat gun control legislation. The defense of our constitutional rights is not an ignoble stand and it most certainly does not deserve the potshots that The Times has taken at it.
