Bateke, a saxophonist from the Congo, will bring the spicy and exotic music of his native land to the San Juan Capistrano Library on Saturday night. He and his four-member group, Bateke Beat, will offer a mixture of past and present, with roots in early African music, funk and classic jazz.

Bateke, who has performed with Nigerian bandleader/singer Fela Anikulapo Kuti, will play saxophone, bass and kalimba and will sing, accompanied by musicians from Zaire and Los Angeles.

The concert is part of the library’s ongoing Visual and Performing Arts series. Proceeds will benefit the Friends of the San Juan Capistrano Library and Taller Arte y Cultura.
