A Balmy Weekend Will Be Summer’s Final Fling

Summer has one foot out the door, but forecasters said she’ll give us one more weekend of sunny skies and warm temperatures before she leaves.

“It’s the last weekend of summer,” said Wilbur Shigehara, chief forecaster for the National Weather Service in San Diego. “All the ducks should be heading south.”

The ducks might want to hold off, though. Shigehara predicted “a real nice weekend coming up for San Diego.”

The ideal weather is due to a Mexican high-pressure system and remnants of a Hawaiian storm that have combined.

The high-pressure system will fend off any rain-bearing clouds, and the storm’s innocuous high clouds and light winds will keep things on the cool side, Shigehara said.

The weekend outlook is ideal for outdoor activities, and forecasters said it could be the last chance to take advantage of summer’s long days.

“The days will be getting shorter soon,” Shigehara warned.

In fact, fall will officially begin Tuesday at 11:43 a.m. The length of the day will be equal to that of night.

Daytime temperature at the beaches will reach about 75 degrees all weekend.

In the coastal section, including downtown, highs will reach 81, with lows of about 63.

Inland areas will warm up to nearly 90 degrees and cool off to about 60 at night.

In the mountains, temperatures will climb into the low 80s during the day and fall to about 52 at night.

The deserts will be in the 100s in the afternoon, cooling off to about 70 at night.
