Buchanan on Moral Standards

Share

Herr Kommandant Buchanan states that “in the old America, Ingrid Bergman, carrying the child of her lover, fled the country in scandal. Today, she would probably be asked to pose naked--and nine months pregnant--on the cover of Vanity Fair.”

Let’s not jam all these images together, Mr. Buchanan, to spout your sick moralism. Ingrid Bergman, after all, carried that child to term; she didn’t have an abortion. Demi Moore, posing on the cover of Vanity Fair when she was nine months pregnant was very much married. That cover was a celebration of maternity and “family values” in the truest sense. The trouble with your type, Mr. Buchanan, is that you talk out of both sides of your mouth; motherhood is wonderful, but keep it under wraps.

Standards, Mr. Buchanan, should not be set by shame.
