Teacher Pay Cuts

Share

In response to “Mock Funeral Protests School Cutbacks” (Sept. 8): I surely sympathize with the educators’ need for more money in this recession, yet punishing the education of the students is as malicious as the pay cuts themselves. Signs such as “Will Teach for Food!” make a mockery out of the tough times in which we live. A 17.5% pay cut is indeed dramatic, yet with unemployment on the rise, a pay cut is still a better option than living on unemployment benefits.

Teachers should be happy in such a tough economic time that they are employed and offer a commodity more important than money, that of an education.
