Bill Clinton’s Draft Record

Share

So The Times found that Clinton’s uncle and draft board delayed his induction. How about all the other Rhodes, Fulbright and other special scholars in those years? If you had inquired you might have found another uncle was ensuring his nephews were allowed to continue with their very special education--Uncle Sam. If my memory is any good, the U.S. Air Force sent all its Rhodes and Fulbright scholars from the service academies and ROTC on to their courses of study. I think we also sent hundreds to graduate school directly from the academies during the period in question. It would have been absurd to have drafted all these fine minds instead of allowing them to continue in school.

The attention given Clinton’s draft status may appeal to certain citizens, but his actions during the period, and his treatment by others, cannot be considered negatively by thinking people. I am a Vietnam veteran who appreciates all those who opposed that war. If it hadn’t been for them, the killing would have gone on longer.
