PRO FOOTBALL : DAILY REPORT : RAIDERS : Allen Producing the Most
The Raiders keep starting Eric Dickerson, but they keep finishing with Marcus Allen.
In each of the last two games, the Raiders have given Dickerson the ball, with less-than-impressive results.
After falling behind, they have then gone to Allen, the man they demoted to third string, and he has produced the only substantial yards on the ground.
“Marcus is getting healthy and he’s able to get in there and make some plays,” Coach Art Shell said. “He’s always been able to do that.”
Against the Cincinnati Bengals, after Dickerson had been held to 28 yards in 10 carries, Allen came in and rushed for 22 yards in only four. He also ran three times in a row from the Bengal 16-yard line to get the game-tying touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Last week against the Cleveland Browns, Dickerson struggled again with 22 yards in six carries.
Enter Allen.
When the team needs an extra blocker in passing situations, Allen is in there. With the Raiders behind from the start Sunday, he was in there a lot, gaining a game-high 52 yards in eight carries. He also caught a game-high eight passes for 57 yards.
