Truman Comparisons
John Balzar’s article (“Truth About Truman Offers String of Parallels--and Pitfalls--for Bush,” Sept. 13) rests on the assumption that George Bush’s comparison of himself with Harry Truman is legitimate. Hasn’t it occurred to anyone that Bush, in comparing himself, ludicrously, with Truman, has strategically obscured the real comparison--with Herbert Hoover, who also ushered in, presided over and had no idea how to resolve a major economic depression?
