BURBANK : Nonprofit Groups’ Permit Fees Waived
- Share via
The Burbank City Council gave final approval Tuesday to an ordinance exempting nonprofit organizations from paying Fire Department permit fees for public events such as parades.
The department asked the council to change the city policy after it found that the fees caused a hardship to some nonprofit groups and that it was collecting fees from other city agencies at city-sponsored events.
The department was approached by several churches that asked the city to waive the fees, said Fire Marshal Darryl Forbes.
For parades, the average fee is about $50 per float. Carnivals such as those put on by schools and churches were charged between $50 and $100 for permits, Forbes said.
For-profit businesses or other groups that put on street fairs or parades must still pay the fees.
