COLLEGE FOOTBALL : DAILY REPORT : UCLA : Goodwin More Than Fill-In at Safety
Safety Marvin Goodwin has been impressive while replacing graduated Matt Darby.
Goodwin made a game-saving interception with 1:13 to play in UCLA’s 17-10 victory at Brigham Young. He also made nine tackles, including a sack, and deflected a pass.

Punter Darren Schager, who averaged 39.4 yards last season, is averaging 45.4 yards this season. After averaging 44.3 yards on three kicks in the Bruins’ season-opening victory over Cal State Fullerton, Schager averaged 46 yards on six kicks against BYU.

UCLA’s Rob Walker was sacked only once in his first college start. . . . San Diego State quarterback David Lowery is listed as probable to start Saturday’s game against the Bruins. Lowery has not practiced since last Thursday because of back problems. . . .San Diego State hasn’t beaten a team from outside the Western Athletic or Big West conferences in 18 games dating to Oct. 5, 1985, when the Aztecs defeated Stanford, 41-22. . . . UCLA is 14-0-1 against San Diego State, 8-0-1 since the series resumed in 1984.
