A Kern County man was ordered Friday to stand trial for murder and attempted kidnaping in the death of a Canoga Park woman who was accidentally shot by her husband.

Joe A. Yohn, 27, of Rosamond is charged in the July 25 death of Linda Jane Corum, 52, who police say had recently broken off a romantic relationship with the defendant.

At a preliminary hearing in Van Nuys Municipal Court, Deputy Dist. Atty. Larry Diamond said Yohn, upset over the breakup, went to the Corum house, pulled Linda Corum into his car and sped off.

The dead woman’s husband, Larry Corum, testified that he fired a warning shot into the air and then fired another into the trunk of Yohn’s car.

Yohn then pushed her out of the car and fled, he said. Linda Corum died from one shot in the chest, police said.

Judge Michael S. Luros agreed with prosecutors that Yohn should be charged with Corum’s slaying under the legal theory that the kidnap attempt caused her death. Larry Corum is not charged in the case.

Luros set Yohn’s bail at $25,000 and ordered him arraigned Oct. 9 in Van Nuys Superior Court.
