The Houston Astros said they will retire the numbers of two of their most popular former players, pitcher Mike Scott and outfielder Jose Cruz, during a ceremony before the Oct. 3 game against the Dodgers in the Astrodome. Scott wore No. 33 and Cruz No. 25. . . . The Seattle Mariners will hold spring training in Peoria, Ariz., in 1993, to be joined by the San Diego Padres in 1994, according to commitments given the Peoria City Council. . . . John Kruk of the Philadelphia Phillies will be sidelined for the remainder of the season because of a right shoulder problem, team physician Phillip Marone said. Kruk was hitting .323 with 10 home runs and 70 RBIs.
