More Foreign Laborers to be Allowed: Taiwan unveiled plans to allow more than 32,000 foreign laborers into the country in the second phase of a labor immigration program. The Council of Labor Affairs said companies in 68 industries will be allowed to hire overseas workers if they can demonstrate that workers from Taiwan cannot be found for the positions. Industries allowed to import workers must also have substantial export sales and contribute to the island’s industrial development. Taiwan’s unemployment rate recently dipped below 2% and the island is suffering from an acute labor shortage.
