Small Businesses, Home Schooling

Thank you for publishing “The Entrepreneurial Spirit Lives” by Tyson Park (Voices, Sept. 28). It is important that we realize the true economic impact of “small, locally owned, service-oriented businesses.”

However, the city and county of Los Angeles and the state of California continue to build roadblocks in the paths of growing small businesses. To truly “rebuild L.A.” would be to remove these barricades and allow small businesses to prosper. I attempted this in a bill, but it was defeated by a majority who do not understand the risk endured by small business owners.

It is ironic that on the same day the Park column appeared in your paper, another story described the criminal threats faced by street vendors. The area of public safety is precisely where government can and should do more to protect business.
