Layoffs in San Diego: San Diego’s public broadcasting stations KPBS-TV and KPBS-FM have released five full-time and three part-time staff members because of a budget deficit. The layoffs are part of a new KPBS business plan meant to erase a $500,000 shortfall in the 1991-92 budget. Although revenue, including membership, increased 7% last year, KPBS would have needed an 11.5% increase just to meet rising expenses, a station executive said.
