El Al Crash Body Search Ends; Toll at 50

Associated Press

The search for bodies at the El Al crash site ended Thursday, four days after the Israeli airliner tore into an apartment complex near Amsterdam, and Dutch officials confirmed a death toll of 50.

But they stressed that many more people are still missing, most likely forever. A formal list of the missing is to be issued today.

The El Al 747-200 cargo jet crashed 14 minutes after taking off from Schiphol Airport Sunday. It slammed into a high-rise apartment complex after losing at least one engine. The cause of the crash remains a mystery.
