LOS ANGELES : Bernardi Seeks Hearings on Dealings by MWD

Share

City Councilman Ernani Bernardi on Friday called for an investigation into proposals that the Metropolitan Water District guarantee water to agricultural customers, and for hearings on the impact such a move would have on the city’s access to, and cost of, water.

Bernardi said that reports of behind-the-scenes deals to swap votes on agricultural water projects in exchange for support for a new MWD chairman led him to call for public hearings.

“City elected officials must know categorically the impact of what is happening at the MWD, the availability of future water supplies for Los Angeles and whether proposals to subsidize another region’s water needs will increase Los Angeles’ costs . . . or reduce our access to this vital commodity,” Bernardi said.
