New Policy on Sexual Misconduct Released

A Roman Catholic diocese accused of ignoring sexual abuse complaints against a priest more than 20 years ago released a draft Friday of its new policy on investigating claims of sexual misconduct.

Under the Fall River Diocese guidelines, allegations of sexual misconduct would be investigated within 24 hours, and no cleric found guilty would be given an assignment “which places children at risk.”

The new procedures stem from the case of former priest James R. Porter, accused of molesting dozens of children in the 1960s and early 1970s.
