The city’s War on Graffiti Committee is kicking off an anti-graffiti program and presenting Golden Paint Brush awards to people who have been active in ridding South Gate of graffiti. The event takes place at 9:30 a.m. today on the front lawn of South Gate High School, 3351 Firestone Blvd.
Under the adopt-a-block program, individuals, organizations and businesses are being asked to keep at least one residential or commercial block free of graffiti and trash for two years. A sign recognizing the effort will be put up along the street.
The anti-graffiti committee of residents, business owners and city staff was formed in June, 1991, to coordinate citywide graffiti removal. In addition to volunteer efforts, the city has a five-member crew that removes graffiti.
