WORLD IN BRIEF : FRANCE : Ex-Premier Escapes AIDS Scandal Trial

A legislative committee in Paris has voted to spare from prosecution former Premier Laurent Fabius and two of his ministers implicated in an AIDS scandal that has killed scores. The decision virtually ensures that no high-ranking members of the French government will be prosecuted for the scandal, in which around 1,200 hemophiliacs contracted the AIDS virus from blood that health officials knew was contaminated.
