THOUSAND OAKS : Reward Suggested in School Bomb Scare
- Share via
Thousand Oaks Mayor Robert E. Lewis has asked the City Council to set up a reward fund of $5,000 to help find the person responsible for planting a bomb-like device at Newbury Park High School this week.
Students were evacuated and a bomb squad from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department was summoned to the school after officials received an anonymous phone call. Investigators found the “timed device” bomb in a student locker and determined it was a fake.
It was the second time in two weeks that administrators have evacuated the school’s 1,525 students because of a bomb scare. On Sept. 30, a sheriff’s bomb squad removed an explosive device from one of the buildings.
That bomb was determined to be authentic and could have killed or maimed several people had it been detonated, investigators said.
The City Council posted a $5,000 reward this week for information relating to that incident.
