ADULT EDUCATION: Several San Fernando Valley synagogues...

ADULT EDUCATION: Several San Fernando Valley synagogues are offering a variety of adult education classes beginning this month.

* Temple Ramat Zion, a Conservative synagogue at 17655 Devonshire St., Northridge, will begin its new, expanded adult education program on Wednesday with a monthly book discussion. Other classes include beginning Hebrew, holiday workshop and Israeli dancing. There is a fee for books when applicable. For more information, call (818) 360-1881.

* Adat Ari El, a Conservative congregation at 12020 Burbank Blvd., North Hollywood, will sponsor a 22-session holiday workshop series from 7:45 to 10 p.m. Tuesdays beginning Oct. 27. Sessions include challah baking, a bus tour of Jewish Los Angeles and a Shabbat dinner. Cost is $125 for individual members, $180 for individual non-members, $195 for couples who are members and $270 for non-member couples. Advanced registration is required. * Congregation Beth Kodesh, a Conservative congregation at 7401 Shoup Ave., West Hills, will begin its Tuesday evening classes on Oct. 27. Classes include Jewish ethics, beginning Hebrew, Jewish traditional literature and Jewish history. Members pay $60 for one class, $75 for two classes. * Temple Beth Torah, a Reform congregation at 16651 Rinaldi St., Granada Hills, will host a four-part class on birth, education, marriage and death, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays beginning Oct. 28. The class is free for members and $5 for non-members. For more information, call (818) 831-0835.

PERFORMANCE: The Heritage Playhouse Repertory Company of the Congregational Church of the Chimes will present “The Late George Appley,” a comedy in three acts by John P. Marquand, at 8 p.m. Friday and Oct. 24 and at 2 p.m. Oct. 25. Performances, in the round, will be held in the living room of the Hamilton House on the church campus at 14115 Magnolia Blvd. in Sherman Oaks. Tickets are $5 and the church suggests that reservations be made by calling (818) 789-7124.

FORGIVENESS SEMINAR: A seminar titled “Forgiveness: The Key to Wholeness” is planned from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 24 at Calvary Christian Church, 31293 Via Colinas in Westlake Village. The seminar, featuring David Stoop and Henry Cloud of Minirth-Meier Clinic West in Newport Beach will explore family patterns that perpetuate dysfunction. The cost is $45. GOD IN HOLLYWOOD: The Entertainment Industry Fellowship, an interdenominational fellowship adhering to the beliefs of the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel, will present “God in Hollywood . . . Discerning the Spirit’s Voice” seminar on Oct. 24. The event is scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at The Church on the Way, 14300 Sherman Way in Van Nuys. The guest speaker will be Pastor Jack Hayford, the church’s senior pastor. The program is aimed at people working in the entertainment industry. Admission is free, however a free-will offering will be taken for organizations which minister to people whose lives have been affected by AIDS and HIV.
