A: The radishes are hot because they are not getting adequate moisture. Radishes are fast-growing and you need to keep the soil moist until they are ready for harvest. Cucumbers become bitter when the water supply is uneven, or because the variety is inferior. Next time, try growing one of the Oriental cucumber varieties; they are almost never bitter.
