Hatching a Deal: Oscar-winning actress Jodie Foster, who until last year was associated with Orion Pictures, is setting up her Egg Pictures production company at Polygram Filmed Entertainment. The movies produced under the Polygram deal will not always be Foster’s own starring or directing projects, but the pact gives Polygram a first look at all of her company’s films. It also makes no promise that she will deliver a certain number of films. “Unlike a lot of studio deals with talent, this is not a development for development’s sake, deal,” she said Wednesday. After the Orion bankruptcy (which only this week has been cleared by a U.S. court) Foster went to other production companies where she has five projects pending. She co-starred in the Civil War-era love story “Sommersby” with Richard Gere for Warner Bros., which will be released sometime in 1993.
