Padres Announce 1993 Home Schedule

Share

The Padres’ 1993 schedule offers one major difference from the past as the National League goes from 12 to 14 teams with expansion into Miami and Denver. The home portion of the schedule was announced Wednesday.

The change is balance. The Padres will face each Western Division rival 13 times (as opposed to 18 before expansion) and each Eastern Division team 12 times.

The home opener will be Monday, April 12 (7:35 p.m.), against the Eastern Division champion Pittsburgh Pirates.

The Colorado Rockies, who will play in the West, make their first appearance at San Diego Jack Murphy Stadium May 17-20, and the Florida Marlins, who will play in the East, debut in town June 4-6.

The slate also features the first scheduled doubleheader since 1990. It will be Aug. 6 against the Rockies.

The Padres’ longest home stand comes after the All-Star Game, July 15 through the 25th against Philadelphia (four games), New York (three) and Montreal (four).

There will be slight changes if the Giants go through with plans to move to St. Petersburg, Fla.
