Estancia Leaves Laguna Beach in Its Wake, 36-12

Using a rushing attack that rolled up 241 yards in 53 carries, Estancia slogged past Laguna Beach, 36-12, in a Pacific Coast League game Friday night at Laguna Beach High.

The Eagles (4-3, 2-1) built a 16-0 lead with 2 minutes 15 seconds remaining in the first quarter. Laguna Beach ran only two offensive plays up to that point.

Reserve running back Cody Charley ran for 140 yards in 26 carries and scored touchdowns on runs of three, eight, and five yards. He also rushed for a pair of two-point conversions.

Charley’s first touchdown capped a nine-play, 65-yard drive in which he carried seven times. After Matt Johner intercepted a Laguna Beach pass, Estancia embarked on a 10-play, 57-yard drive that ended in Charley’s second touchdown.

Luke Matjas put Laguna Beach (1-6, 0-2) on the board by catching an 18-yard touchdown pass from Patrick Wood with 38 seconds left in the third quarter.
