U.S. Oil Rig Count Rises: The number of rigs drilling for oil and natural gas in the United States rose 27 to 830 in the latest week, above the year-ago total of 801, according to Baker Hughes Inc., a Houston-based oil field services company. For the week ended Oct. 23, rigs drilling on land rose by 18 to 763. The number in inland waters rose by 10 to 17, while the number offshore fell by one to 50. A total of 415 rigs were exploring for crude oil, while 403 were searching for natural gas.
