Suit Filed to Block Wine Health Label: Sharon Reese of Albany, Calif., has filed suit to block the use of a new wine bottle tag that contains an excerpt from a “60 Minutes” broadcast about studies linking moderate wine consumption to lowered risk of heart disease. The suit charges that the tags, approved by the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms for use on Beringer wines, violates federal regulations and state consumer fraud laws. Attorney Don Driscoll of Berkeley filed the suit for Reese in Alameda County Superior Court late Friday. He called the claims “misleading” and said the suit opposes the statement from a public health point of view. Walt Klenz, president of Beringer Vineyards, said he knew the lawsuit had been filed, but he had not seen it. No court date has been set.
