South El Monte : Food Service for Preschool

Share

The City Council voted 4 to 0 in favor of contracting with the San Gabriel Unified School District’s Food Services Department to provide meals and snacks to the city’s Mini Center preschool program.

Councilman Albert Perez was absent.

The agreement will furnish the center’s 123 preschool students with lunches and snacks. The services can be provided at no charge to low-income families. Others will be charged based on ability to pay. No additional spending from the city’s General Fund will be necessary because supplemental funds will be provided by California’s Child Nutrition and Food Distribution Division.

The food service program was required as a condition for joining the state preschool program, city officials said. Currently, parents send food with their children.
