Claremont : Sculpture Commissioned
Local artist Rod Baer has been commissioned by the City Council to create a sculpture for the renovated Claremont Depot Transit Center, the city’s Metrolink station.
The Transit Center Public Art Commission selected Baer from among 50 applicants. The artist proposed a multicomponent work featuring a transportation theme, at a cost of $60,000.
In a related matter, the council approved an agreement for the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission to fund half of the cost of the artwork, up to $30,000. The nonprofit Claremont Community Foundation plans to raise the other $30,000.
