UC San Diego has been selected for the NCAA Division III women’s soccer playoffs a record seventh consecutive year, but the UCSD men’s team, the defending national champions, did not make the playoffs for the first time since 1982, the NCAA announced Monday.

The UCSD women’s team, ranked 12th with a 10-2-2 mark, will play host to No. 10 Macalester (Minn.) College (16-2) in a West Regional semifinal match Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at UCSD’s Triton Soccer Stadium. The other regional semifinal matches No. 3 Cal Lutheran (16-3) and unranked Trinity (Tex.) University (16-4) at 11 a.m. at UCSD, and the final will be Sunday at noon at UCSD.

UCSD, Cortland State, Rochester and Plymouth State are the only teams to have been selected for the tournament in each of its seven years. UCSD won the national championship in 1989 and was second in ’88. Last year, UCSD lost to Ithica, 1-0, in the NCAA semifinals.
