HAILING HAL: Movie producer Hal Roach, who died Monday, often turned down hefty fees to make public appearances. But since 1976, he made almost annual appearances at Linda Carpenter’s film history class at Edison High School in Huntington Beach. . . . . Says Carpenter: “I think he did it because the first year the students decorated the room with posters from his movies and really made him feel welcome. His wife told us later he’d never been more moved, even when winning an Academy Award.”
