CHESS RESULTS : Fischer-Spassky Game 29 Concludes With 3rd Straight Draw
Despite lively play by Bobby Fischer and Boris Spassky, the two chess stars had to settle for another draw--the third straight--Wednesday in Belgrade, Yugoslavia. Fischer leads the $5-million chess marathon, 9-5, with 15 draws.
Wednesday’s draw was much more spirited than the previous two games. Playing black, Spassky achieved equality in the opening and a small advantage after a skirmish ending at move 20. When Fischer tried to fight back, Spassky kept the upper hand and reached a favorable ending. However, Fischer managed to prevent Spassky from capitalizing on his advantage.
