Notice to Our Readers

Starting Dec. 19, the Los Angeles edition of The Times will replace the San Diego County Edition.

This change reflects the economic pressures that have impacted the entire newspaper industry and the Southern California economy in particular. While the edition will change, The Times will continue to be delivered to all subscribers throughout San Diego County and will be available at newsstands.

Our staff has done an outstanding job for 14 years in creating a fine editorial product and in developing circulation, community presence, and advertising revenue more than 100 miles from our headquarters. We are pleased to have provided San Diegans with another news voice and to have contributed to the public-policy dialogue.

The Times has been distributed in San Diego since 1887, when it was first sold at a newsstand at 5th Avenue and E Street downtown.

While we regret the closing of the local edition, The Times will continue to bring San Diego County readers America’s finest coverage of today’s major events. The edition will contain the broad coverage of regional, national and international news, plus coverage of the worlds of sports, business and entertainment found daily in The Times.

All full-time employees of the San Diego County Edition will be given the opportunity to relocate within the Times. There will be no layoffs of full-time employees.

The Times will maintain a six-person news bureau in San Diego in addition to 25 advertising sales and support personnel.

The Times has many loyal readers and advertisers in San Diego. On behalf of everyone at The Times, I want to thank you for letting us be a part of your lives for the past 14 years. We hope to continue to serve you with the regular edition of the paper.
