THE BIN BUSTERS

Share

As most people do, Morrison misapplied Kant’s categorical imperative. We are obliged, according to Kant, to act only as we wish all people would act in a given situation; he says nothing about coercing all others to act as we would act in the same circumstances.

Keep your trash bins in your yard until you hear the trucks coming, or throw your body over your discarded diet-cola cans to protect them from marauders; Kant would approve of either action. But don’t appeal to him to justify self-righteous snitchery.
