Controversy Over Term Limits

Share

In response to “Unsure Prognosis for Term-Limitation Fever,” editorial, Nov. 9:

I agree that the term limit playing field must be leveled. The most obvious way is to adopt a constitutional amendment establishing term limits for members of Congress, as was done for the office of President.

Spending limitations included in the legislation that was vetoed by President Bush would only be effective if similar limitations were put on political action committees. Better yet, abolish the PACs and limit contributions to those by individuals directly to candidates, with a $1,000 ceiling.

This would level the playing field and get the cost of elections out of the stratosphere. While we’re at it, abolish federal matching funds, and make a start at reducing the federal deficit.
