Drug Debate Off the Mark

Share

I am appalled that Robroy McGregor’s letter displayed such blatant animosity toward his neighbors.

McGregor’s comment that the opposition is a “small minority” who can’t assess the situation does a disservice to the entire community. The homeowner organization that he belongs to polled the neighborhood by phone this summer and discovered that 98% of the residents opposed the location of this project.

The dynamics of this situation have not changed from four years ago as the supporters of the program so glibly state. Rather, McGregor and others of his ilk appear to be sticking their heads in the sand, ostrich-like, to avoid facing the reality that the neighbors have gathered facts, not emotions, to query the wisdom of allowing a drug rehab program into a residential neighborhood.

Perhaps McGregor should take his blinders off. Phoenix House is just another “big business,” not an asset to the community.
