Sopranos Jennifer Smith, 28, of Tustin and Megan Weston, 27, of Buena Park each won a $500 Encouragement Award at the Metropolitan Opera regional finals Friday at USC in Los Angeles. Neither singer will go onto the national finals in New York City next spring. Winners of those competitions will receive contracts with the company.
