Santa Monica : Affordable Housing Lottery

More than 2,000 families will be part of a drawing Monday that will determine whether they will move into one of 42 new affordable housing units that will be available in the city early next year.

The housing was built by the Community Corp. of Santa Monica, a private, nonprofit organization that develops and manages affordable housing projects in the city.

According to a press release from Executive Director Joan Ling, the units were financed by the city, the state, federal tax credits, several banks and other investors.

All but one of the five buildings are in the Pico Neighborhood in southeast Santa Monica. They are located at 1747 15th St., 1828 17th St., 1968 19th St. and 2425 Virginia Ave. The fifth building is in the Mid-Cities area at 1544 Berkeley St.

Mayor Ken Genser will select the families at 3 p.m. Monday at the Ken Edwards Center, 1547 4th St.

The Community Corp. manages more than 350 units of affordable housing in the area.
