Essentially a coffee-table book on one of the greatest natural calamities in recent years, “The Big One” is a compilation of photographs and newspaper reportage. The stark color images of the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew amply demonstrate the extraordinary power of nature, although the theme of the game survivor examining the wreckage of his former home grows a bit tiresome. It’s sobering to note that these ruins could be Los Angeles after a major earthquake--or any large city after a disaster.
