Closing Libraries
Illiteracy is at an all-time high. I deal with people every day, customers and co-workers alike, who cannot spell the name of the month on the checks they write or make simple change from a $5 bill. And what do our government officials do about it? They close down our local libraries.
I am shocked to learn that some of the libraries in my area are being closed due to lack of funds. In a time when government should be doing all it can to support education, officials seem to ignore the fact that a good percentage of the population in their own state cannot read or write.
I had hoped that all of the talk about education during the recent election would encourage our government officials to take some action toward better education, but once again they have disappointed me.
