Lifting Ban on Gays in Military

Share

Why all the confusion regarding the issue of gay and lesbian military personnel? Here is the bottom line: Military service is a job, in most ways like any job and in some specific ways different from other jobs. Sex on the job, whether it be between people of the same sex or people of the opposite sex, whether sexual harassment or sexual intercourse, is inappropriate. Gay and lesbian people, like straight people, report to their jobs each day to work, not to have sex.

The policy barring homosexual people from employment in the military is job discrimination, pure and simple. The fact that some in our government and our society hold on so desperately to policies like this is an indication of how far we have to go to be a true democracy.
