Hillary Clinton’s Role

Share

In response to “A New Breed of First Lady,” editorial, Nov. 15:

I must say that I could not agree with you more. Hillary Rodham Clinton should continue to pursue her interests. Not only does she owe it to herself, but as a leader she owes it to the men and women in support of female leadership. This country is in need of great leaders, both male and female. What more could we ask for than to have both a man and woman caring for the needs and interests of the U.S.?

Hillary Clinton’s record of commitment to both the Children’s Defense Fund and the American Bar Assn.’s Commission on Women makes her a deeply rooted candidate for a position with more respect and responsibility than the traditional role of First Lady. No one’s abilities should be restricted.

During my lifetime I want to see a woman as President. My hopes are not for mere change, but for permanent change. Mrs. Clinton has a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make a truly profound difference for the future of this country and for women. Now we must wait to see if our President-elect will support his wife’s endeavors, as every husband should.

Editor’s note: The Nov. 15 editorial failed to mention a little-known 1967 law that prohibits a President’s relative from serving in a post under his jurisdiction.
