The Asian Pacific-American Legal Center has received a $50,000 grant from Citibank to run a Leadership Development in Inter-Ethnic Relations program.

Michael Freedland, director of community lending for Citibank, said the yearlong leadership program is a “successful effort forging real partnerships through cultural sensitivity.”

The program was created in June, 1991, to instruct community leaders in understanding and dealing with inter-ethnic issues through discussions and community projects.

The legal center, at 1010 S. Flower St., is revising the program and will be collaborating with the Martin Luther King Dispute Resolution Center and the League of United Latin American Citizens to broaden the spectrum of participants and instructors. The next session will begin in February with about 25 students.

Citibank’s donation will go toward staff salary and program support.
