Post-Riot Series: ‘Separate Lives’

I finished reading “A New Blue Line” (Part 2, Nov. 17), and was left with countervailing opinions. It was well done and probably accurate but was it necessary to replay non-professional images of law enforcement in that some LAPD officers are so insensitive as to compare their chief with the Pillsbury Doughboy or to, on the one hand, hail their chief as a reformer but refer to him with a racial epithet?

I find it deplorable that in the ranks some officers would be so ignorant and blatant in their personal feelings that they would damage the total profession, because to many readers that is how we come off as insensitive and non-caring. However, I also wonder if it was really necessary for you to report this.
