Sentences for Crack Dealers
In response to “Harsher Crack Sentences Criticized as Racial Inequity,” Nov. 23:
I think that powder or crack offenders should get harsher sentences. In our society we don’t need people getting out early. I’m astonished that people are trying to get crack dealers reduced sentences.
I think if a dealer received seven years for dealing crack, he/she would likely never deal crack again. On the other hand, if a dealer received two years, you would think that person would be more likely to go back into the business.
There are two important messages in this law. For one, it is created to protect us all. So how can that be a racial inequity? Second, use your brain; don’t smoke crack.
